Helmet fit is very personal and something we want to perfect for you. First, take a look at our Fit and Sizing page that includes video from our athlete, Trexler Hirn, as he explains how to fit a LowDown Helmet.
Take hold of the chin straps at the point where they connect with the hardshell and gently pull apart, away from your head/cheeks before putting on/ taking off. If the helmet feels very tight in the forehead or causes pressure points near the temples, rear corners or top of your head, it may be the wrong size. If it is just a bit snug, it will break in as you begin to wear it. Slide the ratcheting clip into the buckle until it is snug, but not too tight, under your chin. You can always adjust the length of the chinstrap to help with the fit. Our helmets are similar to a well-fitting boot and will settle in with time and use.
You’ll want to feel a small amount of rotational movement between your head and the helmet, maybe 1-2cm. This is a good indicator that you have achieved the right fit and size.
Please refer to the size chart on our Fit and Sizing page. Between sizes? We recommend sizing up for the perfect fit—our helmets have a snug, performance-driven feel.
If you have further questions you can schedule a free fit consultation with one of our founders by emailing info@lowdownhelmets.com with the heading; fit consultation.
LowDown helmets will keep you warm on the coldest of days and cool on the warm ones. We use various technologies optimized to keep you warm and with a full coverage helmet, you will feel the ample insulation instantly. On the warmer days, you’ll find our strategically designed channel venting and inclusion CoolMax® technology helps move heat and moisture away from your head.
We don’t recommend wearing anything under your helmet, this could affect the safety and performance. If you choose to wear something under your helmet, please ensure it is thin, breathable and allows for a correct, safe fit.
Yes, we all do! But we are a safety brand, so we will start by saying that you should always make sure that you can safely hear the mountain environment, and be sure not to block the ear vents. Our helmets are audio friendly, we have a recessed pocket in the ear pads where the speakers can be placed without blocking the vents.
We recommend Bluetooth systems that work with full coverage hard shell helmets in order to be able to easily control your volume, turn music on and off as well as answer calls without taking your phone out.

LowDown helmets are independently tested to meet US (ASTM F2040-18) and European (CE EN 1077:2007 Class A) safety standards for alpine skiing and snowboarding. Tested and trusted, so you can focus on the ride. For more information please check out our safety standards page.
Helmets are protective equipment, and safety will always come first. We work to reduce the environmental impact of how our helmets are made, without compromising the protection, performance or quality we expect from every LowDown helmet.
Impacts
A helmet’s impact protection abilities can be affected after impacts even where there is no visible exterior damage. If you know or suspect that your helmet has been damaged or exposed to any abnormal force it should be thoroughly checked for dents and cracks to the shell and interior rigid components. Damage that may reduce your helmet’s level of protection can be difficult to detect. Replace your helmet if there is any sign or suspicion of damage. If you are unsure of damage or have questions, please feel free to reach out to us and we will do our best to evaluate and advise. All helmets should be replaced after 3–5 years of normal use. To best care for your helmet, follow these steps:
Storage
Please avoid storing your helmet in extreme heat or cold (ie- near fireplaces or heaters or in cars), direct and prolonged sunlight, or using heat or cooling devices to dry helmets after use. Variations in temperature can degrade the materials faster and have negative results with regards to performance and safety.
Transport
Do not expose your helmet to impacts or external pressure during transport. We do provide a soft bag for carrying and light transport; for longer or more strenuous transport we do suggest carrying the helmet on its own or packing it into a rigid, standalone helmet case, to avoid dents or damage on its journey.
Cleaning
Clean the helmet with a damp cloth and small amount of mild liquid soap. Please avoid strong detergents or solvents on both the exterior and interior. The helmet’s internal padding cannot be removed, but it can be hand washed in cool water with mild soap. Pads should be air dried. Do not dry in a tumble dryer or near high heat sources. Helmet straps cannot be removed from the helmet but can be cleaned with water and mild soap and air dried as well.
Personalisation
We do not recommend that you add stickers, decals or glue to your helmet, or personalize your helmet in any other way. This may reduce durability and lifespan of the helmet or reduce the protective qualities and can result in the warranty being voided.
Replacement
No helmet is designed to last forever. The helmet should be viewed as a perishable item and replaced after 3–5 years or normal use or immediately after an impact.
Helmets are not intended to last forever. We recommend replacing a helmet at least every 3 to 5 years due to natural degradation of the materials. This can result from variations in temperature, exposure, storage, use, care, travel and general wear and tear.
However, a helmet should be replaced immediately after a significant impact or if visual defects (cracks to the shell or dents) appear.
Please refer to our care guidelines and replacement policies, or contact our Customer Service team with questions.

Proposition 65 Warnings are mandated by the State of California to inform consumers of the presence of any chemicals in a product that may be harmful or cancer causing. While we, like many companies, work to ensure that we limit our application of these chemicals as much as possible, certain chemicals are inherently necessary in helmet and other plastic manufacturing.
This product can expose you to chemicals including Bisphenol A (BPA) which is known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. For more information go to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov.
